WV - Mufasa (MCR)
Ever since I'd moved to a new place, I was looking for the perfect little furry companion to keep me company. I'd begun my search through various rescue groups, local and national until I landed on Mufasa's (now renamed "Louie") bio through Maine Coon Rescue. I fell in love with his curious little face and little white snow paws right away and knew I had to reach out. The stars aligned and I was able to adopt Louie and bring him home just a couple of weeks later (January 2021). Since then, he's been my constant shadow, entertainment, play buddy, and an endless supply of cuddles. Between his greeting me at the front door when I come home to his nose boops, I know I've found my perfect companion. Louie has brought so much joy and happiness into a time when it was much needed. He's definitely made my house a home and I'm endlessly grateful to Maine Coon Rescue for bringing my puff ball into my life! |
WV - Truffles (MCR)
| I was scrolling through Maine Coon Rescue’s site for the first time when I came across Truffles’s photo. She looked so regal with her white ruff, and I had to know more about her. Her story captured my heart, but I was afraid that I lived too far away to be able to adopt her. I contacted Truffles’s foster mom anyway and was delighted to find out that I lived close enough to be able to adopt her if I met the adoption criteria. I was SO excited when I found out that I could adopt her, and she joined my household soon afterward. She has a mischievous and playful streak in her despite being 9 years old, and she makes me laugh every day. Truffles’ foster mom and the staff at Maine Coon Rescue were wonderful to work with and obviously care deeply for cats. They have helpful resources on their website for introducing a cat into a new home and kept in touch to make sure the adoption was going smoothly and to help with suggestions. Thank you, MCR for bringing us together! |
GA - Maggie (MCR)
I have always loved cats and especially love getting the chance to adopt. After searching online, I came across Maine Coon Rescue. I researched this group and found them very reputable, so I went ahead and applied to adopt one of their cats. This was the BEST decision I could have made. We went and met our kitty at her wonderful foster home. She was well cared for and loved. I am forever grateful to Maine Coon Rescue and her foster parents for allowing us to be Prim’s owners. She is a sweet, cuddly, curious, ball of fun. The perfect addition to our family.

| When our beloved cat Cheshire, died, a decade ago we were too heartbroken to adopt again. But a long-distance move to a new state and a new house later, we discovered the joy of a Maine Coon. Neko (cat in Japanese) belonged to my brother, and we agreed to keep her for six weeks while he took his family on vacation. We were quickly hooked. The affectionate nature and fuzzy face of the breed had me looking online for one of our own, as I knew that my brother would not part with Neko. That’s when I discovered Maine Coon Rescue and saw a photo of Mewsetta nee’ Bobcat. A few weeks later, after a number of emails and phone calls to her foster mom and a volunteer coordinator, as well as a question-and-answer period for all of us, we were on the road to meet and greet our new kitty. Foster mom drove more than four hours while we drove less than three. Mewsetta came with vet records including a last-minute wellness check, as this rescue is a very dedicated group of individuals who like to ensure that both animals and adopters are well matched. It took Mewsetta about a week to emerge from under the bed in our guest room, except to eat. We sat with her very often and read or watched tv until she was comfortable with her new surroundings. Now she follows us around always keeping one of us insight. She remains shy around strangers, reverting to under the bed status, and she could do without a visit from our daughter’s small dog. But she claws only her scratching post and except for a few hairballs, has left us no other “gifts.” It took lots of patience but, after so many years with no pets, we had plenty to give. Our evenings are spent with Mewsetta curled between us on the sofa. Come winter, she will be better than a blanket. We like to think that Mewsetta agrees. |
OH - Buddy-(MCR)

Buddy joined my tribe of felines as a foster “fail” and I could not be happier with his addition. He arrived at my home in December 2020 as a thin, very scared boy. He spent two months hiding under a dresser or in my closet while feeding him breed-specific kitten food due to the hoarding situation he had come from. In mid-February, he decided to finally venture close enough for me to pet him once… and after that, he decided being petted was not that bad. Since then, Buddy has learned to trust more and more each day. Now he jumps on my bed and sleeps next to me at night, seeking out love and affection. He is also quite the conversationalist, trilling and chattering about his day with me. He has also affectionately been nicknamed Buddy the Babysitter as he loves keeping my young foster kittens company in their room. He became a permanent part of my family at the end of July 2021. He is such a magical boy and brings so much joy and fun to my family. He gives so much love and makes me smile every day. He has come so far from that first day and I am so proud of him.. and that he chose to trust me as well.
