4 paw declaw
Maine Coon Rescue cannot guarantee the parentage or breed of cats on this site. THE FOLLOWING CATS ARE BEING CARED FOR IN A LOVING MCR FOSTER HOME. There is a lot of information here to read but it's a must for anyone who wants to apply for Truffles. She will tell you what she wants and how she wants it. It is important to follow her lead in order to form a great relationship with this kitty. If you apply and are not chosen, please understand it is nothing to do with you personally. This cat is kind of picky in how and when she wants affection and I have to be sure the home she goes to is the right fit, and that the owner completely understands about her personality. Truffles came from a good home, but when their daughter left home she was thrown outside. Their reason was because they "became tired of the hair in the house." She is a 4 paw declaw! How could they put her outside after doing that to her? Her next home will need to be strictly indoors only. She deserves better than she has gotten. She is a little spitfire who stood her ground against my dog. He couldn't care less about cats since he is 10 years old now. But when he was chasing the laser pointer he got a little close to her. Truffles growled, which is normal behavior for a cat. She didn't run away though! When the dog wasn't close she just stared at him, looking curious. In new situations she will explore every corner and cubby or sit quietly and watch the room. She is curious but cautious at first. If she doesn't want to be picked up or petted she will let you know by putting her paw on you, or by putting her teeth on you. Not hard, but just to let you know she is annoyed. If you continue to grab or pet her after her warning she may bite a little harder. Again, only enough to tell you to stop. I believe this to be the result of her declawing and maybe she feels this is her only defense. Many cats resort to teeth after being declawed. That is just one of many reasons it is now a discouraged practice. Declawing can affect a cat's behavior, as well as their skeletal structure and walking, jumping, etc. She is particularly testy around her hips at times, however sometimes she likes being petted there. This is why it's so important to learn her moods and behaviors. You will learn what she likes and when and avoid overstimulating her when she wants to be left alone. She will let you know when she wants love and pets. She has never bitten hard at all and only uses this as a form of expression, both affection and annoyance. I have learned quickly how to know which is which. This is a cat that someone needs to know when to love on her and when to let her be. For this reason I think she would do best in a home with no small children. I have often wondered if maybe she was bumped by a car or otherwise injured in her hips while living outside, but the previous owners said she never went near the road. It's so hard to tell what happens with outdoor cats. That is why it's so important to keep them indoors. I think maybe she has a little arthritis setting in, although the vet said she is fine and does not need medication. Speaking of medication, the vet did prescribe some liquid gabapentin for days when she is feeling particularly testy or moody. I have only used it a couple of times as she has not needed it here with me. I can send a new bottle with you just in case you feel she needs a dose. Most of the time Truffles is laid back, sweet, calm and friendly. She loves attention so much. If I'm working at my desk she is always up in my face wanting to be petted. She is pretty nosy and has to be all up in your business. She is afraid she will miss something important! She is funny and silly, especially when she gets catnip. She absolutely loves catnip more than any other cat I have seen. She actually put her face in the container and pulled it out of my hand! She was really happy that she caused me to spill it and she ran to jump into the mess! Sometimes even without catnip she will start feeling wild! Her eyes will get crazy and she will run around all over, as well as up and down her cat tree! Truffles gets along with other cats provided they have proper introductions. She should be just fine with a dog that doesn't chase or aggravate her. She is the more dominant of my 3 fosters though not in an aggressive way. At first she will hiss and maybe growl a little to let everyone know she is in charge. She will be the first to come to the door wanting out of the cat room. She is the first to come up to me for pets and affection. She is pretty vocal at times, especially when she sees you getting the wet food ready. She primarily eats wet food and doesn't like any of the dry foods I have tried. I do leave a bowl of it down for her though in case she wants it. Currently she gets one can of wet food per day but I am sure she would prefer two. I give her only one right now in hopes she will eat more dry food. She did have a bout with feline acne at one point so she will need stainless or glass food and water bowls to prevent this. Plastic and ceramic bowls tend to harbor bacteria that can cause feline acne. Most cats do not have this problem but Truffles seems more sensitive to it. I use a mixture of stainless and plastic bowls and have not had this problem with her at all. A previous adopter did have the issue, but could have been something at her home that was causing it. It needs to be made aware just in case, just to be on the safe side. Truffles enjoys lazy days up on the cat tree looking out the window. Anytime you go into the room she will jump down to be at your feet. She weaves her way around your legs so you have to be careful she doesn't trip you! She likes to play with the stack toy with balls that roll around inside. I have a cardboard scratcher and she absolutely loves that even though she doesn't have claws! She still makes the motions of scratching. Some cats that are declawed will not use the litter box, but Truffles has always used it perfectly. I have never had any issues with that at all. She isn't picky about litter either. The previous owner says she is about 8 years old but I just don't believe that based on how playful she is and her health! When I got her I thought her to be no older than maybe a year and a half or 2 years old! Her coat is so very soft like a young cat. She is so playful and funny! She could stand to gain a pound or two, but has gained a little since I have had here here with me. I find it hard to believe she is the age they say, but they based that on when their daughter left home so I guess they would know. The right person is out there that will be a perfect match for this precious girl. It will take a few days to figure out what she likes and how she likes it. She just loves attention so much and will seek it out at every opportunity! I need an adopter to be relatively close to my location in case she would need to be returned for any reason. Please do not apply unless you are within 4 hours of me. I cannot bend on this. Once she is in a home where she feels safe and loved, she will fit right in and be Queen Bee.
