PA - Prince Caspian (MCR) Love at first sight: The moment I looked into the soft blue eyes of these two little angels, my heart skipped a beat and I knew I was in trouble. My husband knew it, too. LOL. I originally was expecting one thirteen-week-old foster kitten through Maine Coon Rescue. Then her sibling was found as well in another area of the high-kill shelter they were so fortunate to be pulled from. When they got to me after their plane ride to PA, I couldn't wait to meet them. Well, when I opened the door to their tiny transport carrier I saw two teeny tiny little babies who couldn't be more than 5-6 weeks old! They were much smaller than the 8-week-old fosters I had at home who were getting ready to go to their new furever homes. Knowing that the first kitten had been pulled over a week prior, meant someone had dumped these poor babies at a high-kill shelter long before they should have even been weaned from their mother. What a heartbreaking start to their lives! Not Maine Coons: Surprise! The first little kitten found at the high-kill shelter was the fluffy little girl, now Princess Aurora. She could have passed for a MC mix. But when her brother, now Prince Caspian, was found he clearly had short hair - along with the same blue lynx color points and blue eyes. They had also come in with two short-haired tabbies. Without DNA testing it's still unclear exactly what mix they are. They look similar to Ragdolls, though are not big cats. They could be doll-faced Himalayan mixed with DSH Tabby... At any rate, they are adorable and precious no matter what mix of breeds they are! These kittens were different: I raised an entire litter prior to their arrival and, though I loved them all, I didn't feel the need to keep the others and was happy to help them find good furever homes. Yet my connection with these particular little angels was undeniable right from the start. And with every moment I spent with them, I fell more and more in love. My husband did, as well. They have always had the biggest personalities for such tiny little ones! I'm still not sure exactly what it is about them, but when they look into our eyes we just melt. And still do a year later! Kitten therapy: These two truly are angels in our lives! Sent to us just when we needed them most! They brought us through one of the most difficult times of our lives. Within a 6-7 month period, we suffered more losses than ever before. First, we unexpectedly lost a remarkably special cat, then my father-in-law followed by a senior bunny. Not long after we had adopted a beloved MCR senior rescue cat, he was diagnosed with a terminal condition - we lost him a few months later. We were devastated. At the same time, the same exact scenario was happening with my mother-in-law. Months of hands-on 24/7 care, doctor visits, failed treatments, long drives, long days and nights apart... only to be followed by her inevitable passing. Then suddenly another bunny passed away due to grief from losing the first one, as he was closely bonded with her. We also lost a friend and then our pastor. So, four people we loved dearly plus four beloved pets - gone, all at once. The grief was intense! I didn't think I'd ever stop crying! Yet, somehow, these little angels managed to put smiles on our faces through the tears. It's hard to explain just how EXTRA these two are, LOL! Oh, they've done so much that I've never seen any other kitten do, ever. They are truly the most comical, entertaining little bundles of energy! Though at times their antics have put themselves in danger... so extra care and supervision to ensure their safety has been needed. They are inseparable, love each other so much, and are absolutely adorable together! They have done so much more for us than we could ever repay them for! Yes, kitten therapy is real! The big decision: We did not make the decision to adopt these kittens lightly. Of course, we never do. As smitten as we were with them, we were not looking to adopt kittens. In fact over the last many, many years we have been purposely adopting seniors and/or disabled cats - the ones least likely to get homes. Aside from a few bumps in their start, these babies were perfect and highly adoptable. We struggled with feeling a bit guilty even considering keeping them. Though, our heartache from all the losses was almost too much to bare. We felt like we needed to take a break from adding seniors. Plus, we had previously decided that as our current furbabies naturally leave us, we intend to downsize to just two kitties of our own so we can better foster. Although, we were certainly not expecting to lose two kitties so soon! So my husband and I discussed at length not only adopting these two kittens but also the idea that they would eventually become the only two. We agreed that we're both good with all of it! Because at that point (and really from day one!), we could not even imagine our lives without THEM! Princess Aurora and Prince Caspian will forever be our little angels. They have helped us so much, comforted us, entertained us, challenged us, kept us on our toes and brought so much light and joy into our lives and home, and even brought out the best in our other kitties. We cherish every moment with them! I could never THANK Jennifer enough for finding and saving these kittens! As well as Maine Coon Rescue for bringing them into the fold and giving them a chance despite their questionable heritage. The world is a better place with these two precious angels in it. From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU!!! |
