Maine Coon / Mixed (medium coat) : : Male (neutered) : : Adult : : Large
Mr. Bean is one of the sweetest, cuddliest cats we've come across in a long time! He melts in your arms and "becomes one" with you. He splays out his legs for a tummy rub, and lays his head upon your shoulder when you carry him around. He seems so grateful for affection!! His large, emerald-green eyes are very expressive; his fur is long (especially the mane) with "50 shades of brown", and a wide, dark stripe down his back. While he enjoys napping in various spots throughout the house, he is also a happy explorer and playful fellow! He has a resilience, and a zest for life that are pretty remarkable, considering what he's been thru. Here is the Story of Bean.
Like his namesake, Mr. Bean is a hapless, somewhat pathetic, comically sweet character; he bumbles thru play with toys, and seems inclined to tiptoe, or teeter, thru life a bit akimbo. Why? you wonder. It's because he's that rare "4-paw declaw", a cat that was mutilated as a kitten, with all of his toes amputated. He actually looks like he has no toes at all!!! Imagine him going thru life without being able to scratch an itch, and trying to capture "prey toys" without any claws, and digging in the litter box with his "stubby nubs". Whether his paws are painful or just numb, the atrocity is so outrageous that, thankfully, some states are finally outlawing the inhumane surgery! Mr. Bean was in very bad condition when pulled from a NC shelter. In addition to a terrible respiratory infection (now cured), he had hydration issues which were diagnosed as early stage 2 kidney disease (incurable). He is a scrawny 8 lbs (but gaining!), and is 8-9 YO. The vet says he will live several more years. He seems to be able to self-hydrate adequately but we are currently giving him sub-Q fluids to bolster his health. While he may graduate away from the sub-q, it will eventually be a desirable home treatment 2-3 times a week. Our dear Beanie Weanie is naturally good with both dogs and cats. His adoption fee is fully sponsored, but we still require an approved home for his adoption. Please visit www.mainecoonrescue.net and follow the link to apply for him. The application process takes 7-10 days, but does NOT obligate you in any way. Approval will make you eligible to adopt ANY of our Maine Coon and MC mix cats. For more info, contact his foster mom in Proctorville, OH at ohioriverdogs@hotmail.com or call 740-646-2110. We do conduct transports across several states in our region.
If you cannot adopt at this time, will you please consider a donation to Maine Coon Rescue so we may continue to locate, rescue, provide veterinary care, transport, foster, and facilitate adoptions for our beloved Maine Coon and Maine Coon Mixes?
