Bruiser is a pedigreed brown tabby Maine coon and is an uncommonly beautiful and terrified LION CAT with one of the saddest stories we've encountered: rescued from a Midwest breeder, "Bruiser" was born in a cage and kept there for all 3 years of his life thus far. The cattery-in-a-trailer had NO observable A/C or heat, NO human touch, and LIMITED interaction with other cats. Our hearts ache to imagine him as a lively, inquisitive kitten, wanting to play and climb and socialize, INSTEAD...growing up in stultifying boredom and not being able to experience typical feline pastimes. Bruiser spent day after dreary day, year after dismal year, losing his early enthusiasm and hope for anything NORMAL. He lived in a prison where time must have seemed like an endless vacuum to fill.

 

In foster care since late November, the other rescued cats have opened up to affection, and we are hoping the same for Bruiser. He is fine with cats but fearful of people; he needs a home where his humans will be gently nurturing without pressure. In foster care, he has shown courageous (tho stealthy!) exploration of his digs, a penchant for water play, and a zeal for jumping upon beds and tables (tho not yet cat towers). He is still young, and has a good spirit. We are hoping/predicting a turnaround and will keep you posted!
