THE FOLLOWING CAT IS BEING CARED FOR IN A LOVING MCR FOSTER HOME. *Gypsy and Stella are a bonded pair. They MUST be adopted together.* Stella is as beautiful on the inside as she is outside. She has the sweetest temperament! She loves to be with you and be snuggled. She isn't particularly fond of being picked up but will tolerate it without fighting you. This is typically a Maine Coon trait. Stella had quite a few bad teeth pulled, but it didn't cause her any problems with eating or grooming. She does have a significant under bite that I find makes her so cute! Her tongue sticks out at times and I think it's because of having teeth pulled. She drools a little bit but not bad. Certainly not enough to really notice. The only time it was bad was when she was traveling and I think this was mainly due to being a little carsick. This happens to dogs and cats at times. My husband and I stayed in a hotel when she was due to be spayed the following day. She thought she was in Heaven getting all of the attention for herself since her sisfurr Gypsy had to stay at home. She was more interested in exploring but did finally settle on the beds for pets and photos. She will likely explore a lot at your house too, then settle down for a while. While we were there, she groomed a ton! After we went to bed she meowed quite a bit and wouldn't settle down. I thought maybe it was because of being in a new environment, being hungry, or missing her sisfurr. It turns out she was in heat! That explains the meowing all night when she is normally such a quiet girl! Her sisfurr is more vocal but still a pretty quiet cat. Stella rides perfectly in her crate while traveling. She ended up being in her crate most of the day at the vet waiting for her turn. She never made a peep! She didn't make a mess either. She is a great cat who usually doesn't become restless or upset by anything. She is just chill and laid back. When I had to travel a long way to the vet for her spay, I provided a large pop-up playpen with a bed and a litter box for her. I've found that about 20 minutes into any journey, most cats need to use the litter box. Sure enough, she did. She is neat and tidy with her litter box and doesn't fling litter everywhere. She uses a litter robot now, but I've also provided large shallow totes like you store things under a bed. They are about 6 inches deep. These make excellent litter boxes for these large cats! Stella uses anything provided, however. Stella loves to be on the very top of the cat tree. She will hop down to the shelf about chest level to nuzzle your nose with hers. She loves attention and being told how pretty she is. She loves wet food of course! I'm still trying to find the kind she likes most. I've tried several different ones, and her previous foster had tried various ones as well. They absolutely love Open Farm wet cat food the best. The cartons are a bit difficult to open. It's on the more expensive side as far as cost goes. It may be the only kind they'll end up eating every bite of though, which is more cost effective than not eating as much of other brands. Stella is on the thin side and needs to put on some weight. She is currently 9.4 pounds. I feel she should be closer to 20 pounds. She isn't bony but is thinner than I think she should be. This could be because of her previous teeth issues combined with not liking some brands of wet food. I have some other high protein brands of wet food coming to try. We can discuss this further upon approval to adopt so you'll know what to purchase and not have a lot of waste. They are currently eating Purina One Dry Food. I feel the better the food, the more healthy weight Gypsy and Stella will put on. Stella has the feline herpes virus (FHV) so she should have a Lysine supplement each day which is available from pet supply stores and is not expensive. It is caused by a virus comparable to the virus that causes cold sores in humans but it presents itself similar to how we exhibit allergies. Don’t be alarmed at an occasional sneezing outbreak. Her symptoms seem to have gotten better since her dental. It is estimated that over 90% of cats have been exposed to the virus and as many as 50% have the active virus. I use Tidy Cats in the litter robot and Catalyst Litter in the regular boxes. It's like a sawdust type of litter, and she uses it perfectly. She doesn't have a problem using different types or brands of litter. Are these beautiful girls the right fit for your home and heart? Submit an application today!
