THE FOLLOWING CAT IS BEING CARED FOR IN A LOVING MCR FOSTER HOME. Please read his profile thoroughly to be sure Jon Snow is the right fit for your home. Jon Snow must be the ONLY cat in the home. Jon also needs to be on a prescription dry food for the rest of his life as he has a malabsorption challenge. This does not affect his health in any other way than he is just a bit thin. This is Jon Snow! Think Simon Cowell of the cat world. Yes - he is a jerk.. but lovable! He makes up for it by being so sweet! Jon has had a rough start in life and MCR has been working with him on his "issues". Jon Snow was imported from Russia to his original family. As much as they loved him and tried to make it work, it was not the best fit. They contacted Maine Coon Rescue to take him in and find him the best home. Upon his first vet exam, we discovered that he had a botched neuter - twice and had to have abdominal surgery to remove his other testicle. Jon is a diva! He is temperamental. He wants lots of verbal recognition from you. He has improved immensely and think he will continue to improve when he gets to his forever home. He wants to be in charge - the Big Boss Man. He just wants to be the center of your world but he will reward you 10-fold with chatty conversations, allowing you to pet him any time, calmly trimming his nails, and gently brush him, and just generally being a great boy. But he needs to be YOUR ONLY BOY! AND ONLY THE CAT! Jon is on a prescription diet (Purina Pro Plan EN Gastrointestinal) that he loves. It is one you can easily get from your veterinarian or from Chewy. The reason he is on it is because his stomach/GI tract does not absorb ( malabsorption) all the calories in regular food. This food is higher in calories and allows him the nutrients he needs. Please do not change this food unless directed by your veterinarian. Jon is very sensitive to stress and this can affect his system as well. Due to Jon's trauma, he needs a prescription kitty "Prozac" (Paroxetine). This medicine is liquid and he is very good about taking it. His foster has the medicine set up on auto-ship from a pet pharmacy. It costs approximately $75/month. Jon's biggest challenge is his sensitivity to stress. You will have to pay attention to any changes made in his environment. This is why the kitty "Prozac" is imperative to him. His medication needs to be given daily at about the same time. And his litter box needs to be cleaned out. He is particular about that. If this does not happen, Jon will go outside the litter box and his favorite target is the bed. His accidents now are few and far between now that his foster mom has identified what matters to him. She also closes her bedroom door during the day and lets him in during the night, where he lies on the bed with her. This has worked extremely well. Jon has silky soft white fur that will need to be combed. He is a purebred Maine Coon. He does enjoy being combed. If you do not comb him, he will matt. He currently is growing some fur back due to this. Lastly, he LOVES his hammock. His foster would recommend that his new mom or dad get one for him. He spends about 50% of his day in this hammock. He loves laying in it during the day as he naps. His foster mom can help direct him to a hammock source if necessary. Despite all that he has been through, Jon is the sweetest boy you will ever meet. Just days after coming into his foster home, he sat in his foster mom's lap and very calmly let her trim his nails AND apply his medication. He is also seeking out pets from his foster, which is a big improvement. Jon is starting starting to learn to be a cat. He is just learning what toys are and loves his new kickstick, which will go with him to his new home. He just needs encouragement, patience, and love. Jon is seeking a home where he can rightfully be the King of the Castle. And deservedly so. He wants all the love and attention to be focused on him. Ideally, his foster would like to keep him within 150 miles of Columbus, Ohio due to his issues. Each application will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Since August, Jon has really progressed in learning how to become a cat. Something he did not know how to do before. He has started to seek out affection from his foster mom and has even given her "kisses". He has also started to relax more in his foster home. He has also started to bond more with his foster mom, which is why this is the time for him to find his PURRRFECT home. This boy is so worth the small effort that he needs. He truly has the biggest heart under all that silky soft white fur. Jon Snow's adoption fee is $175.00. This includes a wellness exam, combo test (neg/neg), neuter, dewormed, flea treatment, FVRCP Vaccine, Rabies Vaccine, and microchip. For more information, please contact Susan at: Saknoll@bu.edu.
