9 yr old pedigreed white Maine Coon boy
Olaf is a friendly, affectionate, loving, easy-going, yet somewhat timid kitty – a true "Gentle Giant". He is 9.5 years old and a very large incredibly handsome all white pedigreed Maine Coon with strong features. He responds positively to most respectful introductions to living beings, great and small. Though he is not a fan of loud noises nor abrupt actions. He has a very easy-going disposition and takes things readily in stride at any given moment. Though at times you can see that some things may have overwhelmed him by how he responds thereafter – such as avoiding the carrier after going to the vet. He is calm, relaxed and well-behaved in most situations - including while he is at the vet. He travels really well in the car and actually seems to enjoy the ride after a short period of acclimation. Olaf was used to living with only one other cat, though he has demonstrated that he can adjust to more and various pets with proper introductions. He has been introduced to several other cats, rabbits and on occasion a few cat-friendly dogs and his reactions have been positive and accepting. He did seem a bit overwhelmed at first with more than one cat at a time, though he is becoming more comfortable every day in a multi-cat household. At home, when he gets overwhelmed he is likely to retreat to a quiet place alone. Once he collects himself again, he will return on his own to a loving trusted environment - often adorably vocally announcing his re-entrance. It appears evident that Olaf prefers a more quiet home, without children. Olaf loves attention and affection! He rubs up against anyone who will give him the time of day and purrs away, strong and loud. When he purrs he gets the tiniest bit of drool pooled up on his lower lip, though he keeps that under control before it drips. He definitely prefers to have your full attention when he is present. Once you start doing other things, he is likely to move on and go do his own thing. The more time you spend with him, the more you earn his trust. Once he trusts you and feels safe, he will let you pick him up and hold him as well as cuddle on or beside your lap. He also gives the most endearing kisses! He will sometimes sleep either with you or nearby and often quietly changes that up during the night. A few of his favorite things are to hang out in the window and enjoy nature, birds and wildlife. He is an explorer and likes to be up high – thus he is a table and counter-surfer, LOL. He can jump long distances and can stand up tall and reach many things with ease. He will use a sturdy scratching post and cat tower, though furniture is not exempt – thankfully he responds well to positive redirection. Olaf has discovered in his foster home that he really enjoys catnip and will at least briefly play with toys that include a fresh sprinkle. He has also been known to occasionally join in on interactive play sessions. Otherwise, he is more relaxed than active. He enjoys his long naps on his new oversized cat bed, or sprawled out on a table. When he was rescued, his fur was matted all the way down to his skin along both sides and underneath. It was claimed that he would become so aggressive upon grooming that his professional groomer refused to continue to groom him. We were advised that he needed to be put under sedation for grooming. I, his Foster Momma, have been completely successful in reintroducing him to all grooming tools and even gentle grooming that does not include pulling at matts. I was even able to detangle several individual clumps by hand without upsetting him. We then cleared up those large matted areas by shaving at the vet, without sedation, and the staff all said he did very well as long as they respected his gentle warnings and gave him breaks in between shaving sessions. Now we can continue gentle grooming sessions, which Olaf actually enjoys, and hopefully prevent too much matting in the future. He loves being loved on from the top of his head to the tip of his tail. So brushing that feels affectionate is more than welcome in his book.
