Maine Coon (long coat) : : Male (neutered) : : Adult : : Large
Charlemagne was surrendered by an owner who had wanted to breed and sell purebred Maine Coons, but got in over his head. MCR was happy to help. What we got in Charley was a badly matted mess who still responded to kindness. First pic shows his lion cut. He’s big. Let’s go with huge. Over 20lbs, and his fur is not completely grown out. He’s going to look even bigger. Yet he fits the title of Gentle Giant. Thank goodness he doesn’t want in my lap yet. But lying right next to me and loving attention is definitely in his ballpark! He doesn’t mind other cats. He sees absolutely no reason not to run right up and say hello to them. Did I mention he’s huge? Yeah, my cats were distinctly unthrilled at having their personal space invaded. That led to putting him in a harness so that I could control the interaction. He’s fine with that. Bear in mind that he’s not the one to start the fight. But with his size, he won’t back down. Having little or no socialization with cats other than siblings, he just doesn’t recognize boundaries. That means an extended introduction period! I have no idea how he would do with dogs. Benign neglect was what he was used to previously. There will be a period to gain his trust. Food and love. Once you are the source, he will begin to open up. He will be available within a two-hour drive of Woodstock, Georgia. Because you need to meet him before you can commit. He would do best with an experienced cat owner who will give him the time to blossom.
