Maine Coon Rescue cannot guarantee the parentage or breed of cats on this site. THE FOLLOWING CATS ARE BEING CARED FOR IN A LOVING MCR FOSTER HOME. CAT'S BIO: Mr. Whiskey is such a wonderful boy! He is an older cat that we estimate to be about 8 or 9. He is a large cat but when he came to us he was only 5 pounds and very bony. I actually said I've never seen a cat so skinny still be alive! Since then we have had his blood work done. It turns out he has hypothyroidism. Once we put him on a tiny pill twice a day he has improved so much. He gained 3.5 pounds in just 6 weeks!! He still has a lot of weight to put on. He is at 9 pounds now. The light has come back into his eyes and he is just the best boy. He eats good and takes his meds perfectly in a piece of cheese. I break the pills in half and put them in just a tiny piece of cheese and he gobbles it right up. For a day or so he seemed bored and didn't want it. I got worried and made an appointment to get him some transdermal meds that you put on the inside of the ear flap. Before I could take him in, he started eating the cheese again with gusto. I got him some pill pockets for the days he doesn't want the cheese. Just know that transdermal meds are another easy option if necessary. This is something he will most likely need the rest of his life, but may clear up with time. Once he puts on his full weight I predict him to be at least 15 pounds. His purrsonality is sweet and he always wants attention. He will let you pick him up for a minute but wants down because he's afraid he will miss something! He's very active and always looking for adventure. He's more of a dominant cat but not in a fighting way or anything. Just that he will get his wet food before anyone else! If his bowl is done he may go over and see if he can help finish off everyone else's. When he first got here it seemed like he just couldn't get enough to eat. That's understandable considering his severely low weight and needing more food to maintain his energy to try and survive. Now he just wants everyone else's food like a normal cat haha He uses the litter box perfectly and is a neat and tidy boy. Whiskey has huge eyes that to me look like marbles. I just think that is so cute! He looks up at you with an expectant look on his face all the time, those big eyes emploring. When he looks up at me I think of that old song "Funny face, I love you, funny face, I need you." His face is just so expressive. He walks around your legs and rubs on you and wants to be petted. He loves to be talked to. When you walk to the door he puts his paws up on the glass and paws like crazy! "Come see me! Pet me! Give me a treat!" His coat is still a little rough where he was so sick. It's getting softer as he gets healthier. The vet looked at his teeth and said they are fine but he has "old man mouth." I think he suffered a lot living on the streets and barely survived but came out better than expected. He shouldn't need any dental work but it's always possible for an older cat, especially one with his stray background. This cat will continue to flourish and grow and his love is endless. I think once in a home environment he will be a lap cat. It's hard to tell that now with him in my foster room and not out with the family. He is good with the foster cats but I haven't had him around my dog. I think with time he will be good with dogs too. Do you have a home for this friendly boy that has so much love to give?
