Poisons and Cats
This information is to help you and your cat in case your cat gets into something poisonous. Learn to make your home safe for your cat.
In Case of Emergency
If poisoning is suspected, call your Vet and advise them that you will be coming in ASAP. Bring containers of suspected poison to the Vet.
Helpful Suggestions
- Wrap kitty in towel to avoid hurting you or itself, and to prevent further ingestion if source of poison is on the coat itself.
- Do not administer home remedies to induce vomiting.
- Know your Vet's emergency situation procedures (especially after hours).
- Keep telephone numbers handy for your Vet, Local Emergency Vet Service and ASPCA Animal Control Center: 1-888-4ANI-HELP (888-426-4435)
- Have ready: Information regarding exposure/amount, time since exposure, species, age, sex, weight, and product exposed to, problem.

- Hydrogen Peroxide 3% (USP)
- Can of soft food
- Turkey baster, bulb syringe or large medicine syringe
- Saline to flush out eye contaminants
- Artificial Tears to lubricate eyes after flushing
- Mild grease cutting solution to bathe after skin contamination
- Forceps to remove stingers
- Pet carrier
